Clinics and Services
- Additional InformationIn addition to general medical consultations we are pleased to be able to provide specialist clinics and services covering the following areas:
Chronic Disease Management
- Additional InformationAs General Practitioners we see a large number of patients with chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. We aim to offer comprehensive review programmes for these patients. The importance of attending review appointments is not only to manage current problems with the patient but also to plan ahead for any potential future need. In some cases your review appointment may be with one of our practice nurses who have had extra training in these areas.
Diabetes may be a progressive disease that can have long term health implications if not carefully managed. At Catshill Village Surgery patients with diabetes can expect a full annual diabetic review to monitor and manage the condition. You can expect a 30 minute appointment with the Practice Nurse and includes a weight check, blood pressure, foot screening, blood test and a discussion on lifestyle factors. Support may be offered to help enhance healthy living. A urine sample will also be required at this appointment.
For some people it may be necessary to make medication changes, therefore follow up appointments may be required throughout the year. This is necessary to monitor the response to blood glucose levels and ensure they are maintained within a safe range.
At Catshill Village Surgery both Dr Ford and Nurse Jo McArthur specialise in Diabetes management.
The annual reviews are also carried out by Nurse Helen Johnson.

Flu & Covid Vaccination
- Additional InformationFlu & Covid Vaccinationat Catshill Village Surgery
An influenza vaccination is particularly recommended for patients with heart, lung or kidney disease, diabetes and residents of nursing and rest homes.
As social contact returns to pre-pandemic norms there is likely to be a resurgence in influenza activity in Winter 2022/2023. It is also anticipated that Covid-19 will continue to circulate.
We aim to vaccinate as many eligible people as possible at the earliest opportunity, to ensure the best protection for those at risk of developing serious complications from these infections.
There will be more clinics to follow throughout November and December.
For the smooth running of clinics:
• Please arrive at the time of your appointment only.
• Please wear appropriate clothing (short sleeves if possible).
• Please wear a face mask.
Please contact the reception staff for details of the vaccination dates.
Travel Health
- Additional InformationOur nurses offer a full advisory service for those travelling abroad.
If you are planning to travel abroad this year, you may need to be vaccinated against serious infectious diseases found overseas. These may be vaccines that are not included in the UK routine vaccination programme.
Catshill Village Surgery can provide free NHS vaccinations and travel health advice, which is specific to the country you are visiting. This includes
• Diptheria, Tetanus and Polio
• Hepatitis A
• Typhoid
• Cholera
A pre travel risk assessment form must be filled in and returned at least 8 weeks before departure. Some vaccines need to be given well in advance to allow your body to develop immunity. This can be obtained from the surgery website. The practice nurse, Jo or Helen, will refer to the national guidelines and check the patient’s vaccination records. They will identify if any vaccines are required and if there are other risks to health, considering medical history and medication. If vaccines are required that cannot be given on the NHS, such as Yellow Fever, Japanese Encephalitis or Rabies, then it may be necessary for you to source these vaccines privately.
Some countries require certification for proof of vaccine, such Yellow Fever and Polio. It is important that you consider this before travel and allow sufficient time for arrangements to be made.

Asthma Clinics
- Additional InformationAsthma review appointments with our clinical pharmacist, Kathryn.
Medication accounts for 25% of the carbon footprint of the NHS and inhalers are the biggest contributor to this. 5 doses of certain types of inhalers have large a carbon footprint similar to driving 8 miles in a car. Therefore the surgery is working to help ensure you are on the most effective inhaler for your needs whilst also looking to limit the impact on the environment.
If you are on inhalers and would like to discuss this further please make an appointment with Kathryn and she will discuss this with you.
To attend one of these clinics please ring our reception on 01527872426.
